Before You Give Up Hope on Your Adult Child... READ THIS!
Hello! Today we’re talking about a deeply personal and emotional subject – estrangement from adult children. If you're a mom navigating through the pain and confusion of this challenging phase, you're not alone. I've been there myself and I want to share with you why you should never give up hope.
Welcome to My World
Firstly, if you're new to my blog, welcome! I’ve walked this tumultuous journey for over a decade with my daughter. So, when I say I know what it feels like to be hopeless some days, I truly mean it. The important thing is, I’m here to tell you that estrangement isn’t forever. Your family’s story isn’t over yet.
Why You Should Never Give Up Hope:
1. Taking Care of Yourself While You're Waiting
When I say "waiting," I don’t mean sitting idle. I mean actively taking care of yourself. Yes, you didn’t choose this path; it’s a rough season, the duration of which is uncertain. While we hope for a short journey, it's vital to take care of your own well-being.
2. Physical Health
Managing stress is crucial. Exercise, eat well, and get adequate rest.
3. Emotional and Mental Health
Engage in activities that give you peace. It could be prayer journaling, mindfulness, or meditation. This is where you'll find your inner strength.
4. Boundaries and Self-Compassion
Learning to say 'no' is a big part of self-care. Be compassionate towards yourself when things are out of your control.
5. Rediscover Joy
It might be challenging to think of joyful activities at this time, but it’s essential. Remember, healthy outlets for stress are crucial; unhealthy coping mechanisms will only add to your challenges.
6. Community Support
Connect with other moms who are going through similar situations. Share your stories, as they offer a wealth of support and insight.
7. Choosing Your Beliefs and Mindset
Your thoughts significantly influence your actions and outlook. Embrace realistic optimism. Acknowledge where you are, but believe that change is possible.
Avoid falling into the trap of catastrophic thinking. Always ask yourself: Do you have any evidence that your worst fears will come true?
Stories of Hope
I have countless stories of families reunited after periods of estrangement. Life changes, circumstances shift, and sometimes those changes catalyze a renewal in the relationship. So, never ever give up hope.
